BC, Riga, 21.07.2017.Print version
The Saeima Presidium on July 20th approved the parliament’s 2018 budget plan, envisaging the parliament’s expenditure to remain unchanged from this year at EUR 22.04 million, informs LETA.

The draft budget includes financing for a number of one-off events. Additional money has been earmarked for the upcoming Saeima elections to provide one-time allowances to those lawmakers who will not be re-elected to the parliament. Saeima is also planning a number of events to mark Latvia’s centenary, including more visits of foreign guests, like a delegation of Nordic and Baltic parliamentarians, LETA was told at the Saeima press office.

In 2018, investments are being planned to improve the accessibility of Saeima buildings by replacing the obsolete elevators and lifting devices for the disabled.

Measures are also being planned to enhance the security of the Saeima complex and data security.

Next year, Saeima will start replacing its 20 years old information system, which also includes the electronic voting system.

To develop the parliament’s Analytical Service, additional financing has been earmarked for hiring experts for research.

The budget project will be submitted to the Finance Ministry for inclusion in Latvia’s draft 2018 budget.

This year Saeima has a budget of EUR 20.41 million, down from EUR 23.64 million in 2016.
