By June 14 this year, the Latvian Central Finance and Contracting Agency has approved EU co-financed projects worth nearly EUR 2.3 bln which is equal to 52% of the total EU funding available to Latvia in the amount of EUR 4.4 bln, reports LETA.

The Finance Ministry said that EUR 329 mln or 7.5% of the financing had been disbursed so far. Disbursements in May and the first half of June were mostly made under the projects concerning transportation, employment and education.

One of the biggest projects for which the contract has been signed recently is the renovation of the Daugava Stadium in Riga. Multi-functional cultural and sports facilities will be built and renovated under the project that would receive EUR 37.5 mln of the EU funds.

The ministry stressed the importance of stepping up the implementation of the EU co-financed projects by 2018. To help the existing and potential beneficiaries of the EU funding, the ministry organized six seminars about good practice in implementation of the EU funded projects by the end of May this year. The seminars, organized in Riga and other parts of Latvia, were attended by more than 400 participants in person and over 500 people watched the live broadcasts online.
