Half of Latvian banks post growth in their loan portfolios in Q1

Aggregate loan portfolio of Latvian banks in the first quarter of this year rose by 0.2 % or EUR 24.751 mln to EUR 15.154 bln at the end of March, and loan portfolios increased for ten banks, according to the Association of Latvian Commercial Banks' data reports LETA.

Swedbank issued EUR 3,302 bln in loans by the end of March 2017, or 0.4% more than in at the end of 2016, the loan portfolio of Nordea's branch in Latvia was EUR 2.669 bln, down 0.1%, and SEB Banka's loan portfolio decreased 0.4% to EUR 2.521 bln.


DNB Banka's loan portfolio decreased 0.7% to EUR 1.49 bln, while Rietumu Banka's portfolio reduced 2.1% to EUR 1.27 bln.


In the meantime, Citadele's loan portfolio increased 1.5%, ABLV Banka posted a 3.4% rise, the Latvian branch of Danske Bank posted a 6.2% rise, Norvik banka posted a 0.04% rise, the Latvian branch of OP Corporate Bank (formerly Pohjola Bank) posted a 6.6% rise, the Latvian branch of BigBank posted a 5% rise, and Latvijas Pasta Banka’s loan portfolio rose by 0.2%.


Loan portfolios shrank for 11 banks, including also for Rigensis Bank by 10.1%, Regionala Investiciju Banka by 1.9%, Meridian Trade Bank by 1.1%, PrivatBank by 3.2%, Bank M2M Europe by 16.1%, Expobank by 10.1%, and the Latvian branch of Eesti Krediidipank by 1.4%.
