With an aim towards development of numismatics, the Bank of Lithuania will soon begin to sell numismatic items via a new, user-friendly, e-shop. Therefore, in the near future, the old pre-order system will no longer be used. In Q2 2017, processing of pre-orders will stop all together, as the coin dedicated to the Lithuanian Hound and Žemaitukas will be issued later – in Q3 2017.

‘We seek to promote numismatics and want to create more favourable conditions to buy numismatic items; therefore, we will soon begin selling them via our e-shop. We understand that buyers of numismatic items will need time to get acquainted with the new e-shop, so the coin dedicated to the Lithuanian Hound and Žemaitukas will be issued later than planned. This will allow smoother transition from pre-orders to real-time purchasing. Our belief is that in having such a shop, the need for pre-orders vanishes,’ says Deivis Stankevičius, Director of the Cash Department of the Bank of Lithuania.

The coin dedicated to the Lithuanian Hound and Žemaitukas (from the series ‘Lithuanian Nature’) will be issued in Q3 2017. It will be possible to purchase this coin ahead of time in accordance with the new Regulations for the Sale of Numismatic Items of the Bank of Lithuania, which will be soon approved by the Board of the Bank of Lithuania With the new Rules coming into effect, it will no longer be necessary to order the coins on the first business day of each quarter – you will be able to purchase them via the new e-shop 5 days prior to the coin’s issue date.

The new e-shop should open this spring, and information on its launch will be published separately when all necessary e-shop installation and testing work is complete.
