The number of saving people slightly declined in Lithuania this year, shows a survey conducted by INVL Asset Management, the asset management arm of the investment company Invalda INVL informed LETA/BNS.

Vaidotas Rukas, director of the Investment Management Department at INVL Asset Management, said the biggest impact could have been made by the increase in prices and people's needs.

"The most frequent answers were that it was influenced by higher prices and bigger needs of the people," Rukas told a news conference on Wednesday.

According to the survey, 63% of Lithuania's residents saved in February, which is a decline from 66% y-o-y, including mainly women and people with medium and higher income.

However, their savings were bigger than in the same period of 2016: 33% saved between 51 and 100 euros (30% in February of 2016) and 27% saved between 21 and 50 euros (29% in February of 2016).

Some 29% of respondents said their financial situation had improved in the past three years, 56% said it deteriorated. In their opinion, growing salaries changed it for the better, while growing prices made it worse.
