EUR 9.5 mln worth survey of natural assets of Latvia

In order to obtain full information about natural assets of Latvia, their distribution and quality, a survey of natural assets of Latvia will get under way in the summer and continue for three years; the total cost of the project is estimated at EUR 9.5 mln, reports LETA/BNS.

The Nature Conservation Agency informed that the purpose of the survey is neither to increase nor reduce the total territory of protected areas in Latvia. The agency is currently working on tender regulations to hire certified and qualified experts for doing the survey.


The survey will be carried out as part of the European Union's Cohesion Fund project on the development of preconditions for the preservation of biodiversity and protection of ecosystems in Latvia. The total cost of the project is estimated at EUR 9.5 mln, of which EUR 8.075 mln will be provided from the Cohesion Fund and EUR 1.425 mln from the state budget. The project will be implemented by November 2020.
