Avg interest rate of housing loans slightly rises in Estonia

As the Euribor rate has been declining in the past months, Estonian banks have been forced to raise interest rates of new housing loans to keep their profits and the average interest rate rose also in July, reports LETA/BNS.

"The average interest rate of housing loans issued in July was 2.4% and the average interest rate of long-term business loans was 2.5%," economist at the Bank of Estonia Mari Tamm said.

 

The lending activity of households remained on the same level as in previous months. New housing loans issued in July totaled 88 mln euros and the whole portfolio increased 4.4% on year. The volume of car leases also grew fast -- 16.4% year-on-year.

 

"Like in previous months the loan and lease portfolio of companies and households also increased quite fast in July 2016, totaling 5.3% compared to the same month a year ago," Tamm said. The total volume of loans and leases grew by nearly 100 mln euros on month to 16.6 bln euros.

 

Compared to July 2015 the loan and lease portfolio of companies grew 5.8 % in July. Long-term loans in the amount of 199 mln euros were issued.

 

The volume of deposits of companies and households was 11 bln euros in July which is 7.3% more than the year before.
