The government's funding for the various projects and events to be organized as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia will amount to 24 million euros, it appears from the budget endorsed by the government committee in charge of the EV100 events on Thursday, reports LETA/BNS.

The committee heard the organizing committee of EV100 on the course of the preparations and approved disbursements from the budget in 2016 in the amount of 5.2 million euros, spokespeople for the government said.

The total size of the budget for the whole duration of the anniversary program is 24 million euros. Of this money about one-third or 9.2 million euros will be spent on audiovisual arts, 3.2 million euros on showcasing Estonia abroad and 2.6 million euros on events for children and young people.

The program of EV100 will run from April 2017 to February 2020.

In April 2017 one hundred years will pass since the establishment of the autonomous national governorate of Estonians within the Russian state by merging together the Governorate of Estonia and Estonian-populated northern counties of the Governorate of Livonia, as a result of which the contours of Estonia largely as we know it today emerged on the map for the first time.

While the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia will be marked on Feb. 24, 2018, many of the country's institutions, such as ministries, Kaitseliit (Defense League) and others will celebrate their centenary in November 2018. In 2019, one hundred years will pass since the victorious battles of the War of Independence, and the anniversary program will be concluded in February 2020 with events to mark the 100th anniversary of the Tartu Peace Treaty.
