Lithuanian central government debt at 42.5% of GDP in late 2015

The Lithuanian central government sector's debt amounted to 15.81 billion euros at the end of December 2015, accounting for 42.5% of last year’s gross domestic product (GDP), data from the Finance Ministry showed on January 29th, cites LETA/BNS.

The sector’s total foreign debt made up 77.8% of its total debt at the end of December. Debt to foreign financial institutions amounted to 10.914 billion euros, and debt to international organizations to 1.392 billion euros.

 

Domestic debt accounted for 22.2% of the overall debt at the end of the month. In particular, debt to the domestic financial sector amounted to 2.859 billion euros, debt to the non-financial sector – to 95 million euros and debt to other domestic creditors – to 549 million euros.

 

The total long-term debt stood at 15.675 billion euros, or 99.1% of the overall debt, and short-term debt at 135 million euros, or 0.9%.
