Estonian local municipalities will witness in 2016 a total revenue growth of nearly 54 million euros, which is 3.4% higher compared to this year, Finance Ministry reports LETA.

A significant part of the increase in the budget will come from bigger income tax receipts, teachers' salary increases and additional resources for the maintenance of local roads.

"We have held thorough negotiations with the representatives of local government associations and I understand that wishes are bigger than the state's real possibilities. It is good to note, however, that local municipalities' income tax receipts have compared to the 2008 boom period increased by nearly 144 million euros, and the increase of the total revenues is in 2016 moving at a similar pace with the state," said Minister of State Administration Arto Aas.

Local municipalities estimated 2016 revenues amount to approximately 1.62 billion euros.
