K-9 unit finds drugs worth EUR 25,000 in Olaine

A State Police K-9 unit has uncovered a stash of amphetamine worth EUR 25,000 in the town of Olaine, LETA found out from the State Police, reports LETA.

Police from the Riga Zemgale District Precinct received information about persons who might be distributing illegal narcotics. Investigating the information, police carried out several searches in Olaine last week, during which they detained two suspects - a man (born 1976) and a woman (born 1964).


After carrying out a search of their residence, police found 538 grams or amphetamines.

With the help of a K-9 unit, the sniffer dog led police to a hidden compartment, where police located anther 1.131 kilograms of amphetamine.


Both of the suspects have previous convictions for similar crimes.

A criminal process has been started.


A gram of amphetamine has a street value of approximately EUR 15 in Latvia.
