Direct spending on Latvian Presidency in 2013-2015 – EUR 45 mln

Current estimates indicate significant savings in organizing the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), as direct spending on the residency from 2013 to 2015 amounted to EUR 45 million, according to the foreign minister's adviser Martins Dregeris told LETA.

Asked about the spending on the first Latvian Presidency, Dregeris said that the total savings in 2015 reached EUR 15 million, in 2014 – EUR 11.2 million, and in 2013 – EUR 3.2 million. EUR 15 million that was saved this year will be transferred to the State Treasury.

 

Dregeris also explained that direct spending was related to organization and preparation of large-scale events. 197 events took place in Latvia during the country's presidency – ten informal ministerial meetings, 44 conferences, 19 high-ranking meetings, including the Eastern Partnership Summit, ten NGO projects, and 114 expert meetings.

 

According to current estimates, direct spending on the Latvian Presidency in 2013 amounted to EUR 4,037,343, in 2014 – EUR 18,948,846, and in 2015 – EUR 22,680,950. Meanwhile, the amount of indirect spending in 2013 reached EUR 3,193,209, in 2014 – EUR 14,550,926, and in 2015 – EUR 18,880,966.
