Lithuania's intelligence agencies to be granted access to past financial operations
BC, Vilnius, 07.05.2015.Print version
The Lithuanian Seimas adopted amendments to the Law on Intelligence and thus authorised intelligence agencies to receive information from financial companies and institutions as well as other legal persons not only about present financial transactions, but about financial operations completed in the past, reports LETA/ELTA.
Previously the Law on Intelligence allowed intelligence institutions to monitor and record financial flows and financial operations with the authorisation of the court. However, it was impossible to receive information about financial operations completed in the past.
It is hoped that the amendments come into force on 1 June will enable intelligence institutions to carry out their functions more effectively.
