Lithuania Post exchanges over EUR 35 mln in few days

In the first days after the euro adoption in Lithuania, on 2-5 January, Lithuania Post exchanged over LTL 120 million (EUR 35 million). Only in the first half of 5 January more than LTL 45 million (EUR 13 million) was exchanged in post offices, informs LETA/ELTA.

That is the record amount collected in such time.

 

People can exchange the litas to the euro in 330 post offices, 628 customer service points are serviced by 1,200 employees. Due to high flow of customers, some post offices may run out of money by the end of working days. Nonetheless, the new currency is transported each day based on demand and security requirements.

 

Lithuania Post is obligated by the Law on the Euro Adoption to exchange the litas to the euro free of charge for 60 calendar days until 1 March 2015. Commercial banks will exchange the old currency until 1 June 2015.
