"Estonia is a firm supporter of the monetary union, and we are pleased that Latvia is already in the euro area and Lithuania will now join its northern neighbours," said Finance Minister Maris Lauri.

"Over the past five years, a lot of new rules have been enforced, particularly on the euro area countries, the implementation of which requires perseverance. In addition, many countries are in need of structural reforms, which must go hand in hand with thoughtful investments," says Lauri. "We support the European Commission's investment plan, in addition to the projects we believe specific measures to improve the investment climate are important. It is important that there be no fear in making investments."

In addition to the monetary union, Lauri and Dombrovskis talked about the European Commission's budget plan assessment, financial management and the Europe 2020 strategy intermediate assessment.

Both Lauri and Dombrovskis spoke also at a seminar organized by State Chancellery "In direction of sustainable and competitive economic and monetary union."
