BC, Vilnius, 04.11.2014.Print version
Meteorologists say that air quality in Vilnius raises concern, even though they predicted that air quality would improve this week, informs LETA/ELTA.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (AAA), air pollution started rising again on Monday, although it had somewhat reduced during the weekend. On Monday, by 10 a.m., the concentration of particulate matter (PM10) detected in various air quality monitoring stations in Vilnius varied from 44 micrograms per cubic metre to 60 micrograms per cubic metre.

Increased concentration of the pollutant was detected in Klaipeda and Naujoji Akmene as well. The average amount of PM10 detected in these cities by 10 a.m. was 54-63 micrograms per cubic metre.

In other cities and towns the average concentration of PM10 fluctuated from 36 to 48 micrograms per cubic metre.

Since last Thursday Vilnius and underlying areas have been wrapped in smog due to unfavourable weather conditions.
