Heating debts of Latvia's largest cities 28% smaller in 2014

According to information from the Latvian Association of Local Governments, heating debts of Latvia's largest cities are 28% smaller in 2014 when compared to the beginning of last year's heating season, informs LETA.

The heating debt in Latvia's largest cities on September 1 of this year was EUR 19.1 million. On September 1 of last year, the heating debt in Latvia's largest cities was EUR 26.6 million. The Latvian Association of Local Governments does not have data regarding the heating debt in Ventspils.

 

Riga saw the largest drop of the city's heating debt – by 64%, followed by Liepaja – 61.2%, and Jurmala – 55.3%.

 

However, a slight increase in the heating debt has been observed in Valmiera and Daugavpils.

 

The heating debt of local governments in the region's has also reduced by 12% when compared to last year, and is currently EUR 14.2 million.

 

As the association's chief energy expert Andris Akermanis explains, heating bills last heating season where lower for residents, as the winter was relatively warmer than usual.
