Electricity price in August remained stable in Lithuania
In August half of electricity was imported to Lithuania from Kaliningrad, this partially compensated for the 9% export reduction from Scandinavia. Lithuania was unable to import more electricity from the Nordic countries due to hot weather which reduced Lithuania-Latvia international electricity link throughput and limited physical electricity flow.
In the power market imported electricity is bought first of all and only afterwards its shortage is covered by more expensive energy produced by local power plants.
In August wind power in Lithuania accounted for almost one fourth of the total amount of electricity produced, it was by 26% more than in July.
Electricity price decreased by 4% compared with July. It was determined by the completion of repairs over Estonia-Finland electricity connection EstLink 2.
Lithuania-Belarus electricity link throughput in August was used on average at 43%, Estonia-Latvia at 95%, Lithuania-Kaliningrad at 98%.
