Rate for heat produced at Windau cogeneration plant to increase by 72%

BC, Riga, 22.08.2014.Print version
The Public Utilities Commission has approved new heat supply rate charged by the Windau cogeneration plant – EUR 29.53 per megawatt-hour, which is 72 percent more than the current EUR 17.12 per megawatt-hour, Nozare.lv learned from the commission, cites LETA.

Previously, Bauska Region Council's heat supply company Bauskas siltums said that it may halt buying heat energy produced by Windau because of the higher rate.

The Public Utilities Commission also stressed that the new rate is not the same as the heat supply rates for consumers – it is just the amount for which Bauskas siltums will be able to buy heat energy from Windau from October 1 this year. The rate approved by the commission does not include value-added tax.

Compared to the current heat supply rate, the new one – at the current natural gas prices – is higher by EUR 12.81 per megawatt-hour, but it is still less than heat production alone, without generation of electricity, would cost.

Heat generated at Windau is sold to Bauskas siltums, the heat supply company for Bauska.

In 2013, Windau revenue from heat energy was EUR 395,000. The company was established in 1991, its share capital is EUR 1,122,000. The company belongs to the Sweden-registered Nykomb Synergetics Technology Holding AB.
