Gasum and Alexela present new LNG terminal options to EU Commission

BC, Tallinn, 20.08.2014.Print version
Finnish energy company Gasum Oy and Estonian energy company AS Alexela Energia presented yesterday at the European Commission the alternative models of cooperation of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal to be built by the Gulf of Finland, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

In February 2014, Gasum and Alexela signed a memorandum at the request of the European Commission on additional analyses of the regional LNG terminal project, aimed to map out possible forms of cooperation by the end of May. The companies submitted in June their plans, which the European Commission said were not eligible for financial support and thus the parties compiled a number of alternative models of cooperation for the import terminal project.

They presented the alternative models of cooperation yesterday at the European Commission in Brussels; the companies now wait for the Commission's view.

"The negotiations proceeded in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and we look forward to the view of the Commission to the models that were presented. We consider it important to develop the Gulf of Finland LNG infrastructure development, with which we consolidate and diversify the availability of liquefied natural gas," stated the executive director of Gasum Johanna Lamminen and Head of Alexela Marti Hääl.
