In Estonia Increased electricity consumption in June results in increase in production

Electricity consumption increased by three percent in June in Estonia as compared to the year-ago period, to 560 GWh while production, which had been in recession for a longer time, rose by as much as 14 percent to 935 GWh, Postimees Online cites Elering, reports LETA.

Although the consumption grew in June as compared to the same period last year, local consumption was still by 3 percent down in the first half of the year as compared to the same time last year.


Electricity production growth in June was caused by increased domestic consumption, but mainly, however, increased exports. Electricity exports increased by 37 percent year-on-year in June, yielding a net export of 375 GWh.


In terms of volume, electricity production in June of this year amounted to January levels. During the first six months of the year, the production of electricity as compared to the same period last year was by 12 percent lower.


86.9 GWH of renewable energy was produced last month, by 31 percent more as compared to the same period last year. The share of renewable energy in the total electricity consumption in June was 13.4 percent.
