Oil shale was Estonia's most actively mined natural resource in 2013

According to the consolidated balance sheet of Estonian mineral resources in 2013, the most actively mined resources are oil shale, sand and gravel, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

At the end of 2013, 893 mineral deposit fields had been registered in the Environmental Registry.

 

There were over 600 valid mineral deposit mining licenses.

 

Oil shale was most actively mined in 2013, approximately 19 million tonnes, followed by sand and gravel (for a total of approximately 5.9 million cubic meters), limestone and dolomite (a total of approximately 2.9 million cubic meters) and peat (approximately one million tonnes).

 

In smaller quantities, clay, sea mud and lake mud was mined.
