Land wind energy parks ceiling almost reached in Estonia

Estonian state-owned energy giant Eesti Energia's board chairman Sandor Liive thinks that the ceiling for land wind energy parks in Estonia has almost been reached and when developing renewable energy, more attention should be paid to bio-mass, Public Broadcasting reports, reported LETA.

Together with the new Paldiski wind energy park that was opened on Tuesday, there are 126 wind energy generators in Estonia and energy specialists forecast that the golden times of building wind energy parks in Estonia are over.

"If we look at what could give more impetus to the Estonian economy, then it is certainly bigger use of the bio-mass in Estonia for producing renewable energy," said Liive.

"If you ask today if we would like to make the next leap with new wind energy generators or if we would rather utilise the bio-mass, then I believe that it would be more beneficial for Estonia to utilize local bio-mass," he said.

By the end of this year, the installed capacity of all Estonian wind energy parks should be 300 MW and according to forecasts, wind energy will cover around 8% of all of Estonia's electricity needs.
