Finnish and Estonian PMs consider LNG terminal and gas pipeline as one

Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen and Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip confirmed at a joint press conference on Tuesday in Tallinn that the liquefied natural gas terminal and the gas pipeline that will connect Estonia and Finland, the Baltic Connector, will be looked at as a whole as separately there wouldn't be any point to them, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

The prime ministers said that they have trusted the European Commission to make the decision whether to build the LNG terminal in Estonia or Finland, and both governments and businessmen of the countries will agree to that choice.

Katainen said that Baltic Connector will remain a separate company which is why it should be of interest to different investors.

"Since this is implementing economic interests, I am certain that businessmen will be interested in it even if the terminal location isn’t in Estonia," said Ansip.

"I am convinced that the result will satisfy us both. If one gets the terminal, the other gets the gas pipeline end. This would be better than indecisiveness that would deprive both of both the terminal and the pipeline," said Ansip.
