Lithuania's PM interested in cooperation possibilities with Turkmenistan in gas sector

Lithuania's Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius during his visit to Turkmenistan on Monday toured the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries and was interested in the possibilities of cooperation with Turkmenistan in the sector of gas, informs LETA/ELTA.

"Lithuania is responsibly considering the alternatives of natural gas supply since the variety of supply sources would help us to reduce prices and to strengthen the economy of the country", said the prime minister. He was interested in future plans of Turkmenistan gas export and the position of the country on Trans-Caspian gas pipeline as well as the transit projects of Nabucco and Trans-Anatolia gas pipeline.

 

During the meeting with the authority of Turkmenbashi port, concrete projects that could be implemented by Lithuanian businessmen were presented. After learning more about the volume of transit cargo of Turkmenbashi port, Butkevicius noted that here could be applied the experience of Lithuanian carriers.

 

"Lithuania is a leader among European countries in the area of transport and logistics. Our companies manage to offer optimal cargo carriage routes and competitive prices, they are leading in freight transport market from Europe to the CIS countries and Central Asia", said Butkevicius

 

Turkmenistan is the fourth in the world in terms of natural gas resources and is among top ten cotton producers in the world. During the last years Turkmenistan seeks to attract foreign investment in the sectors of textile and communications.
