Minister of energy discussed the implementation of Ignalina NPP projects with shareholders

Lithuania’s minister of energy Jaroslav Neverovič met with Kirill Komarov, deputy director of Russian company Rosatom, which is the owner of NUKEM Technologies GmbH, informed BC Ministry of Energy.

The process of the implementation of the projects B1 (Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility) and B234 (Solid Waste Processing and Storage Facilities), current problematic issues and their possible solutions were discussed during the meeting. 

 

Minister stressed that significant progress has been made while implementing project B1 and only a few technical details remain unresolved. According to him, even more active cooperation between the two countries must be carried on in order to ensure the fastest possible implementation of the projects. 

 

During the meeting, the current issues of nuclear energy sector were also discussed. Minister stressed that the main priority of Lithuania is to ensure independent electricity generation, diversification of energy supply and to synchronize Lithuanian energy system with the networks of Continental Europe.
