Sandor Liive admitted weakness of Enefit technology

BC, Tallinn, 11.06.2013.Print version
The state-owned Eesti Energia's manager Sandor Liive said on Monday at an international oil shale conference in Tallinn that the Enefit shale oil technology isn’t suitable for all the different kinds of oil shale in the world, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Eesti Energia has claimed earlier that it can, in cooperation with Finnish engineering company Outotec, develop a universal shale oil production technology that suits oil shale of the whole world and that this technology can be sold in the world. For this plan, Eesti Energia has acquired oil shale resources in Utah, USA and Jordan.

"We are ready to admit that we need to change our technology. One technology doesn't suit all oil shale," Liive said at the conference.

Liive said though that the company continues tests both with the Jordan and America oil shale to adjust the Enefit shale oil production technology to fit.

Postimees said that most likely Eesti Energia wanted to present its Enefit oil factory in Ida-Virumaa as a star event to the conference participants. However the launch of the plant has been delayed due to technical problems. Allegedly Eesti Energia will attempt to launch the plant again in the next few days to convince experts that the technology is working.
