Latvia considers Poland one of the most important cooperation partners in the development of alternative gas supply interconnections, Berzins told Komorwski, adding that this would be one of the most important matters for both Latvia and the Baltic region during the next five years.
Komorowski said that Poland was open to all energy projects scheduled for the next financial perspective, especially the construction of gas interconnections between Lithuania and Poland. Both presidents also agreed on the importance of the Liepaja Port and the port's cooperation with Polish company PKN Orlen in transport of oil products – cooperation equally important to Latvia, the Liepaja Port and Polish businessmen.
Berzins said that all projects in Latvia that involved Poland were highly important, and also thanked Komorowski for Poland's support for Latvia's membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Komorowski said he was pleased at the increasingly frequent meetings between Polish and Latvian politicians, and praised the relations between Latvia and Poland as highly positive. Poland is very interested in Latvia's economic growth and the country's move to the eurozone, added Komorowski.
At the same time, the Polish president said that Poland could make a decision on accession to the eurozone no sooner than in 2015, which is when Poland plans to meet all Maastricht criteria and when presidential and parliament elections with Poland will have concluded.
