BC, Tallinn, 24.05.2013.Print version
Estonian economy ministry said on Thursday that it is not true that the European Commission's analysis on the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal has to be completed by the end of June, since actually the deadline is the end of September, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Estonian and Finnish economy ministers decided recently to ask for an unbiased evaluation from the European Commission on which location of the terminal is the best, Paldiski in Estonia or Inkoo in Finland. Prime Minister Andrus Ansip warned at a press conference on May 16 that the government is under very big time pressure. ""If we cannot reach an agreement by the end of June this year, this financing round (of the EU – ed.) ends. The next chance emerges in 2016 and then there might not be means for that project anymore," added Ansip.

Economy ministry spokesman Martin Miido told Public Broadcasting's news portal on Thursday that there is time till autumn, actually. "As to completion of the analysis – the European Commission will approve of the European Union common interest projects on September 30 latest," he said. "Currently both states are working in the name of guaranteeing the European Commission adequate information to make the decision before that date."
