Finnish president: regional LNG and Lithuanian LNG will not be rivals

Print versionThe projected Lithuanian liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and the regional LNG terminal, whose place is yet not finally clear, will not be rivals, said Finnish President Sauli Niinisto who Tuesday is paying a state visit to Lithuania, informs LETA/ELTA.

"There will be no damage and no competition between these two terminals. The Lithuanian terminal of a national level. We do not yet know where the second, regional terminal is going to be built. I do not see any problem in this situation," President Ninisto said in a joint press conference with Lithuanian leader Dalia Grybauskaite.
The Lithuanian president added that the LNG terminal is will be constructed in Klaipeda is meant for the needs of Lithuania, and, in addition to that, it will be built faster than the regional terminal.
According to Grybauskaite, the regional terminal will service only a few countries. She raised the idea of having several more LNG terminals in the Baltic States.
