Lithuania will not offer Gazprom anything for cheaper gas

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius says that Lithuania will not offer the Russian gas giant Gazprom any concessions, seeking to get a lower gas price, informs LETA/ELTA.

"Lithuania is not ready for any kind of concessions. We will implement the Third Energy Package. During my visit to Brussels I told this to anyone I met. What we care about most is continuity: in 2014 we will have a diversified gas market," he said in a press briefing on Friday, when reporters asked him about what Lithuania could give up in order to have lower gas tariffs from Russia.

"The time is coming to sign a new gas supply agreement and decide on a new formula for a gas price () I do not know that Gazprom could ask for but I would like Lithuania to have the same gas price as Latvia and Estonia do. Why? Because there is a pipeline running to the Kaliningrad region via Lithuania. We could possibly discuss transportation tariffs," Butkevicius said.

Last Friday, Gazprom's Deputy President Alexander Medvedev came to Lithuania to meet Energy Minister Jaroslav Neverovich.
