By the end of the year the following amount of contacts had been concluded and registered in the database: Eesti Energia, 408,284 contracts; 220 Energia OÜ, 13,871; Elektrum Eesti OÜ, 11,982; Elektrimüügi AS, 7,885; VKG Elektrivõrgud OÜ, 7,712; Imatra Elekter AS, 7,192; Baltic Energy Services OÜ, 1,960; AS Eesti Gaas, 699; Nordic Power Management OÜ, 535 contracts and the rest of the sellers, nearly 1,300 contracts altogether.

The share of clients who changed their electricity seller was 9%, according to the contracts.

Elering's board chairman Taavi Veskimägi said that it is not the number o contracts concluded that would give a proper view of market shares of different sellers, but the amount of electricity that they sell.

"In regard to the energy sold, the market has definitely been distributed in a much more balanced way between participants than according to the number of contracts, since many traders who lack a retail sales network have focused their activities mainly on big corporate consumers," said Veskimägi.

All consumers in Estonia had to start buying electricity from open market this year, meaning that they had to conclude electricity purchase contracts with some provider. The consumers that didn’t conclude a contract, continue buying electricity from the market via their current provider as a universal service, that is said to be more expensive than other options.
