The average price of electricity at the Nordic electricity bourse Nord Pool Spot (NPS) Estonian price region was around 36 EUR per MWh in May 2012, which was at the same level as in April but 25% lower than in May 2011, Elering announced.

Elering said that while electricity price in Nordic states stayed at a low level for all of May: the average price of all NPS price regions was at the lowest level of this year or 28.50 EUR/MWh, which is lower than the regulated price valid for Estonian consumers, writes LETA.

The average April price level was both in Estonian and Finnish price regions (respectively 36.15 EUR/MWh and 33.34 EUR/MWh) among the highest at the NPS. The main reason for this was still shortage of transmission capacity between Scandinavia and Finland and Estonia. Disruptions of service in Estonia and higher purchased amounts by Latvian and Lithuanian market players also affected the price.

Electricity sale at the Nordic electricity bourse Nord Pool Spot (NPS) Estonian price region grew by 23% to 428 GWh in May as compared to April.

The amount bought from the Estonian price region was 549 GWh, the largest bought amount in 12 months.
