Grybauskaite's advisor: Lithuania is interesting gas client for Qatar

Lithuania for Qatar is an interesting client since the country could supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to us, says Nerijus Udrenas, President Dalia Grybauskaite's adviser on economic and social policy issues.

As reported, in late April Grybauskaite is paying a working visit to the Middle East country. The aim of her visit is to discuss possibilities of securing Qatari gas supply, writes LETA/ELTA.

The presidential advisor Tuesday morning said that Qatar is like a LNG central bank with vast resources which are third largest in the world after Russia and Iran.

"We are an interesting client for Qatari gas suppliers. Working with us, they would be able to diversify their sales portfolio. The distance between Lithuanian and Qatar is relatively small. What is more, Poland also has a contract with Qatar to secure gas supply to Polish terminal which is under construction now," Udrenas said.

"Therefore, this visit is conducted to show that Lithuania is taking the building of its LNG terminal seriously and is a serious buyer of gas. Qatar is a small but influential regional and global player in other fields too, which, for instance, is reflected by the FIFA decision to hold world football championship 2022 in the country," he said.
