Eesti Energia Jaotusvõrk becomes Elektrilevi

Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 22.02.2012.Print version
Estonian state-owned electricity grid company Eesti Energia Jaotusvõrk OÜ (Eesti Energia Distribution Network) in May 2012 will be renamed to Elektrilevi OÜ and will start using a separate brand, in order to create bigger clarity at the electricity market between Eesti Energia's competitive business and the grid company that is a natural monopoly, Äripäev.ee/LETA reports.

While in the electricity sale sphere, Eesti Energia will start competing with other providers starting 2013, the grid business will remain a natural monopoly, whose service is controlled by the state.

The European directives and draft law on Estonian electricity market refer to the need to separate the competitive and grid business.

The total cost of launching the new brand is nearly 80,000 euros. The name change won't this year bring any changes in contracts or activities connected to the grid service.
