The Green Party of Latvia will organize a protest against Latvia's involvement in the Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant project at the Cabinet of Ministers building today, the protest will continue from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., as the party informed LETA.

A meeting with media representatives is scheduled for 11 a.m.

The protest is meant to express the Green Party's negative attitude toward nuclear power, which may be extremely dangerous for the environment and the people, said the party's board chairman Edgars Tavars.

"But in the first place, we wish that a debate begin in the Saeima and in society, because so far there have only been populist slogans, and no one really understands anything. We have sent letters to several institutions to find out what information they have, and we were astonished to see that most replies said they did not have enough information. This is not only absurd, but also dangerous – how can anyone agree to support something that he does not have a clue about," said Tavars.
