Poland's decision to freeze its participation in the Visaginas nuclear power plant (NPP) project will not change further process of the project's implementation and such Poland's position could be recognized as negotiating, said Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.

He said that Lithuania is not aware of "whether it is Poland's negotiation tactics or a polite and final decision". However, this fact does not impact the implementation of the project, writes LETA/ELTA.

"If, eventually, Poland decides to exit the project, Poland's share will be divided by three Baltic countries," Kubilius said.

As reported, the Polish company Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) announced its decision to freeze their participation in this program last Friday. The company also withdrew from the negotiations for the purchase of electricity from Kaliningrad. The Visaginas NPP was supposed to be built by 2020 in cooperation with Japanese strategic investor Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy and companies from neighbour countries – Latvia, Estonia and Poland. The agreement with the Japanese strategic investor as well as the Shareholders Agreement between Latvia, Estonia and Poland was supposed to be signed at the turn of 2011-2012.
