As the state-owned Klaipedos Nafta is already implementing the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal project on Kiaules Nugara Island in the Curonian Lagoon at Klaipeda Seaport, the concern Achema Group considers building another terminal in the vicinity of the first one.

Achema Group has the largest Klaipeda stevedoring company KLASCO, the daily Vakaru Ekspresas reports.

A study conducted by 26 scientists shows that Kiaules Nugara Island is the best place to locate the floating LNG terminal of Klaipedos Nafta. A study which should say if a similar terminal could be built in the neighbouring Smelte peninsula will be completed next year, writes LETA/ELTA.

"The president supports our wish to construct a private LNG terminal in the Smelte peninsula. We have ordered all necessary studies – environmental impact assessment, safe navigation and others. They will be carried out by specialists from Klaipeda University and Sweden. Final results should be delivered next July," Bronislovas Lubys, President of Achema Group, said to the daily.
