Jordanian energy minister visited Eesti Energia

Minister of energy and mineral resources of Jordan Khalid Irani visited the Ida-Viru County on Wednesday to study the production of electricity and shale oil, writes LETA/National Broadcasting.

Khalid Irani stated that Jordan is very much interested in using its own oil shale mineral deposits.

“We import 96% of energy, but we want to use our own resources, particularly oil shale,” said the Jordanian minister. “Estonia has very interesting experiences in this sector and we came here to study them,” he added.

Eesti Energia is not, however, the only company researching oil shale available in Jordan. Among other companies, Khalid Irani named Shell.

“We are not the only ones who believe in Jordan’s oil shale project,” said Eesti Energia’s manager of the Jordan project Andres Anijalg. “We are one of many and an increasing number there,” he added.

On Thursday the Jordanian minister will meet with the Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip and with minister of economic affairs and communications Juhan Parts.
