Based on mapping data, the researches analyzed processes that took place in the region starting from 1910 till 2005. The experts found out that in the first half of the 20th century terrestrial area of Kuronian Spit coast and Nemunas delta arms in Atmata and Vytine regions had increased, but during last 47 years river silts have been accumulating in a considerably slower pace, writes LETA/ELTA.
Since 1958, Nemunas river delta has shrunk by approximately one square kilometer.
The reasons beyond the above-mentioned processes are climate changes and human activities. Currently water level rise is registered in the Baltic Sea and Curonian Spit.
The study of Lithuanian geologists are published in scientific magazine "Natural Hazards".
