Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said on Monday when opening the new shale oil plant of VKG in Kohtla-Järve that every new enterprise that is opens during the current economic recession is a big step forward, especially when it is a company based n modern technologies, Delfi/LETA reported.

VKG’s new plant is an export-oriented company since the small Estonian domestic market alone cannot guarantee the necessary demand in today’s globalised world, said Ilves.

Ilves said that VKG is an internationally renowned player, which is proven for example by the fact that when he recently visited Belgrade, the leadership of Serbia knew about that Estonian company and was interested in further cooperation.

Ilves added that the jobs to be created are also very important since the future of the Estonian economy depends a lot on how many high-quality new jobs we are able to create, jobs that are more productive than before since this is the only way of raising Estonia’s competitiveness.

The new oil plant of Viru Keema Grupp (VKG), the largest privately owned chemical industry in Estonia, cost 1.1 billion kroons and it provides jobs for 100 people.
