Heating tariff in Riga to increase by 11% in December

BC, Riga, 24.11.2020.Print version
As of December 3, Rigas Siltums municipal heating utility will raise its tariff by 11% to EUR 44.1 (excluding VAT) per megawatt hour of thermal energy, LETA was told at the Public Utilities Commission.

The regulator indicated that the new tariff has been approved because the production costs of the energy Rigas Siltums is buying from Latvenergo energy company has increased due to costlier natural gas.

The Public Utilities Commission said, however, that the assessment of Latvenergo's energy production costs is still ongoing.

Although the heating tariff of Rigas Siltums will go up in December, it will still be 15% lower than the tariff that was effective in December 2019.

Rigas Siltums is one of the main heat suppliers in Riga - the company transmits and distributes 76% of all heat in Riga. The company's shareholders include the Riga City Council - 49% of shares, the state of Latvia - 48.995%, Energijas Risinajumi. RIX - 2%, and Latvenergo - 0.005%.
