Lithuania's energy system is also supplied with power cables by Belarusian producer Energokomplekt which is a partner of Russia's Rosatom that is building the Astravyets nuclear power plant, the lrt.lt news website reports, cites LETA/BNS.

Based on its information, in March, Lithuania's Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius (ESO) entered into a contract, worth over 5 million euros, on the supply of cables with Lithuanian company Eco Sprendimai which supplies cables from Energokomplekt.

Dominykas Tuckus, a board member of Ignitis Gripe (Ignitis Group), which controls ESO, says that if a market participant was rejected over the origin of its products, there would be a risk of embroilment in litigation with tender participants.

"We saw that there's a fairly wide circle of European distribution operators that buy products from various countries, including Belarus," Tuckus said.

According to the lrt.lt, the share of Belarusian and Russian products in ESO procurements has been growing since 2015 and now stands at around 30 percent. Energokomplekt is on the ESO list of officially confirmed and criteria-meeting producers. Its products are sold by a number of Lithuanian companies.

BNS reminds that Lithuania is the staunchest critic of the Astravyets NPP and stands ready not to buy electricity produced by this facility and in general boycott Belarusian electricity from the beginning of Astravyets' operation.
