Scheduled maintenance on NordBalt power link starts in Lithuania
BC, Vilnius, 26.10.2020.Print version
Annual scheduled maintenance on the NordBalt power interconnection between Lithuania and Sweden is starting in Klaipeda on Monday.
The converter station in Klaipeda will be down until November 2 for maintenance of its converter, control and cooling systems and open switchyard, and detection and fixing of defects.
Litgrid, the power transmission system operator, has said
the maintenance shutdown is necessary for the reliability of the 700-megawatt
interconnection.
The supply of electricity to Lithuanian consumers will be
ensured by domestic power plants and other interconnections with neighboring
countries.
The last time NordBalt underwent scheduled maintenance was in
September 2019.
The 550-million-euro NordBalt project was carried out by
Litgrid and Svenska Kraftnat. The 450-kilometer power link was launched in
February 2016.
