Lithuania supports Global Pact for Environment initiative

Lithuania has expressed support to the Global Pact for the Environment that would introduce provisions for environmental protection and climate change contained in a single document, which was proposed during the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, the Foreign Ministry reported LETA.

Lithuania supported the idea proposed by France that an agreement should be drafted, which would include various elements, combining and, in light of the new challenges, complementing the existing international environmental law.


According to the press release, t he Global Pact for the Environment should become a legally binding and universally applicable agreement, proclaiming a body of fundamental environmental rights to be protected, as well as core principles for environmental law.
