Latvian gasoline and diesel fuel imports drop in H1
In January-June 2017, Latvia imported 137.019 million liters of gasoline
and 696,369 tons of diesel fuel.
The value of gasoline imports rose 10.7% year-on-year to EUR 52.594 million
in the six months of 2017, and the value of diesel fuel imports grew 30.1%
year-on-year to EUR 311.515 million.
Lithuania was the main supplier of gasoline and diesel fuel to Latvia in
the six months of 2017.
In the first six months of this year, Latvia imported 87.279 million liters
of gasoline from Lithuania, accounting for 63.7% of all gasoline imports during
the period (63.3% in the first half of 2016), and 46.793 million liters of
gasoline or 34.2% from Finland. Gasoline imports from Lithuania dropped 9%
year-on-year, while gasoline imports from Finland decreased 10.6% compared to
the first six months in 2016.
In the first six months of this year, Latvia imported 433.973 tons of
diesel fuel from Lithuania, which made up 62.3% (44.3% a year ago) of total
diesel fuel imports and was a 36.8% increase against the first six months of
last year. Diesel fuel imports from Finland fell 24.3% year-on-year to 172.791
tons, making up 24.8% of total diesel fuel imports, and diesel fuel imports
from Russia were down to 44,565 tons, or 6.7%, which was 2.2 times less than a
year ago.
During the first half of this year Latvia also imported 458 tons of fuel
oil, down 49.8% from the same period last year. Latvia has been importing fuel
oil only from Estonia this year.
During the first six months of 2016, Latvia imported 151.392 million tons
of gasoline, 715,647 tons of diesel fuel and 911 tons of fuel oil.
