Price of electricity climbs to EUR 31 in April

The average electricity price in price area Estonia of the Nordic electricity exchange Nord Pool (NP) was 31.18 euros per megawatt-hour in April, 1.7 % higher than in March, writes LETA/BNS.

In Finland, Latvia and Lithuania the price of electricity was about the same as in Estonia -- respectively 31.4 in Finland and 31.42 euros in Latvia and Lithuania, the transmission system operator Elering said.


The average price in the Nord Pool system was 29.23 euros.


Electric power flowed from Estonia to Finland during 57% and from Finland to Estonia during 30% of hours in April. During 59% of hours electricity flowed from Estonia to Latvia and during 38% of hours from Latvia to Estonia.


Based on futures transactions, the free market electricity price in May will be 31.53 euros per megawatt-hour.


The price for carbon dioxide emission quotas, which influence the price of electricity production, fluctuated in the region of 4.49-5.05 euros per ton in April.


Elering earned 0.4 mln euros from the provision of cross-border capacity distribution last month.
