Eesti Energia wind farms produce 37% more electricity in April

BC, Tallinn, 06.05.2017.Print version
The four wind farms of the Eesti Energia renewable energy arm Enefit Taastuvenergia produced more than 18,300 megawatt-hours of electric energy in April, almost 5,000 megawatt-hours or 37 percent more than in April 2016, Eesti Energia`s representative informed BC.

Innar Kaasik, manager of Enefit Taastuvenergia, said that 18,300 megawatt-hours equals the average annual electricity consumption of approximately 7,300 households.

The increase in output year over year was achieved thanks to a stable operation of the wind farms and more stable winds, Kaasik said.

Of the four wind farms only the wind farm of Virtsu in western Estonia saw its output decline year over year, which happened as a result of the malfunction of one wind turbine. The malfunction has been eliminated by now.

The wind farm of Aulepa increased its output by one-fifth to over 7,200 megawatt-hours. At the winds farms of Paldiski and Narva output increased even more, but the capacities of these wind farms are smaller.

Electricity produced at the winds farms of Enefit Taastuvenergia accounted for 32% of the total amount of electric energy produced in Estonia during April. All Estonian wind farms taken together produced approximately 58,000 megawatt hours of electricity during the month, 29% more than in April a year ago, according to the transmission system operator Elering.

Enefit Taastuvenergia produces electric energy at the Iru power station just outside Tallinn, at the Aulepa, Narva, Paldiski and Virtsu wind farms, at the congeneration stations of Paide and Valka, and at the hydroelectric power plants of Keila-Joa and Linnamae.

The government has informed about its wish to list minority shares in Enefit Taastuvenergia and a study of the prospects of a potential float is currently underway, involving Nordea and Swedbank as financial advisers and Raidla Ellex as legal adviser.

Eesti Energia is a fully state owned energy company.
