Eesti Gaas getting LNG also from Poland

BC, Tallinn, 22.03.2017.Print version
Eesti Gaas has started to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) also from Poland, in addition to Russia where it has been getting its LNG from so far, writes LETA/BNS.

"We've been saying all the time that we don't want to have just one supplier and we wish to import gas from different places," told Eesti Gaas chief executive Ants Noot on Wednesday. "We are looking at all the places that you can get LNG from today, we establish contacts with them and check out how imports can be handled," told Noot.

The reason for importing LNG from Poland is an overhaul at the plant in Pskov, Russia.

Noot said there is no significant difference between the natural gas obtained in Poland and in Russia.

"It's just a bigger distance to Poland. Pskov is the main supplier, that is clear. It's closest to us and the fastest option for us today, and the quality of LNG there is absolutely fine and its calorific value is high, which is an upside with Russian gas. Pskov remains our main partner, but as it often happens with plants, there may be maintenance or something else and you have to have an alternative source of supply," Noot said.

He said Eesti Gaas was also giving consideration to importing LNG from Lithuania.
