Estonia's natgas imports climb 4.7% on year in February

BC, Tallinn, 15.03.2017.Print version
The import of natural gas to Estonia in February increased by 4.7% over February 2016 to 64.8 mln cubic meters, the transmission system operator Elering said LETA/BNS.

The increase was a result of slightly colder weather in February this year.

The smallest amount of natural gas that entered Estonia during a 24-hour period was 1.4 million cubic meters and the biggest amount 3.7 mln cubic meters. In the estimates of Elering, natural gas shipped from Lithuania accounted for 4.39% of imports.

Transit of natural gas via the pipeline system passing through Estonia took place only in the direction from Latvia to Russia during February and the amount that passed in that direction was 0.92 mln cubic meters. In February 2016 transit in the same direction amounted to 76.2 mln cubic meters.

The average price of natural gas traded on the Lithuanian gas exchange GET Baltic was 20.93 euros per megawatt-hour. The comparable price on the Finnish Kaasuporssi was 20.85 euros per megawatt-hour.

During the month, 183.7 mln cubic meters of natural gas was extracted from the Incukalns underground gas storage facility in Latvia. Just 26.3% of the capacity of the storage facility was utilized as at the end of the month.
